Why is this necessary?

Before the frost begins, it is necessary to preserve your pool to protect it. Based on our many years of experience in installing swimming pools, we emphasise that it should not be left empty for the winter. Since water increases in volume when it freezes, there is a risk of significant ice pressure on the pool walls. You should also not forget about the problem of changes in the volume of the soils surrounding the pool during freezing.

Freezing and thawing of the soil in the immediate vicinity of the pool dramatically increases the load on the walls, which can lead to partial damage to the pool bowl. To eliminate this problem and reliably preserve the pool, compensators (protective cushions) for the volumetric expansion of frozen water are installed. So, to prepare the pool for winter, it is necessary to drain the water below the upper nozzles (approximately 20 cm below the skimmer) and from the pipeline. Then turn off the upper nozzles and the skimmer(s). Remove the strainer from the skimmer(s) and store in a dry place. Remove the lamps from their housings and lower them to the bottom. If a counterflow is fitted, remove the seal and store in a dry place until the start of the season. Fill the skimmer(s), lamp and counterflow plugs with specially prepared foam.

Compensators are installed diagonally across the pool or in the shape of the letter “Y”.

In the technical room, the water must be completely drained from all equipment. If the technical room is not waterproofed and heated, all pumps should be removed and moved to a dry, warm place before the start of the season.

To sum up, for winter conservation it is necessary:

  • leave the water in the pool;
  • turn off the nozzles and skimmer(s);
  • lower the lamps to the bottom;
  • install foam in the skimmer(s), lamp and counterflow plugs;
  • install compensators;
  • drain the water from the equipment in the technical room as much as possible;
  • if necessary, remove and move all pumps to a warm, dry room.
